Sunday 4-7 Junior Zonal Tennis Camp
Mites
Beginner players from age 4-7 learn the basics of tennis and sportsmanship through a series of select proven drills and games. Movement, listening skills, and hand/eye coordination is stressed. Strokes are learned by Steve's fun and productive visualization techniques.
Super Mites
Upon graduation of Mites, the child moves up the ladder to Super Mites. In this class, a review of session one is covered and then the student moves on to a new series of games and drills. Targets are implemented and serving is also started.
Smashers 1
Upon graduation of Super Mites, the child then advances to Smashers. In this class, the student starts playing full court tennis. More emphasis on footwork and perfecting ground strokes, serves, and volleys. The student also begins to learn strategies through a series of drills and games.
Super Smashers
The next stage up is Super Smashers. This group works on strokes and strategies. The mental game is introduced and more advanced drills and games are implemented.
Tournaments Futures
At this level, the child is ready to start match play in singles and doubles. The strokes and game strategy is taught so there is less chance of a breakdown in game situations. The student plays more point games and mini sets to get them ready for novice tournament play.
Academy
These are the top level tournament and high school players. Players have achieved a high level of play through extensive competitive situations in match play. Advanced stroking, footwork, strategies, conditioning, and mental toughness training seminars are conducted. Practice sets, point play breakdowns, and charting takes place.
Adult and Junior clinics
Rookies 1
In a fun learning environment, the student focuses on learning the fundamentals of the game. This session emphasizes court geography, rules, strokes, and on-court strategy. Fun competitive games and basic doubles play is introduced.
Rookies 2
This class is for players who have moved up from Rookies 1 or who have minimal playing experience. Review of rules, strokes, and strategy are covered. Situational games are played along with singles and doubles play.
Intermediate
These players have moved up from Rookies 2 or have experienced competitive tennis at a recreational level. This student has mid-level consistency, and they are looking to improve their strokes and game play. These players may also have been out of the game for a period of time and want to sharpen up their technique and skills. Doubles/singles drills and games are played.
Advanced/Tournament
Advanced players who have played extensive, high level play in tournaments, high school, or college. This level is the "boot camp" of all the sessions. Heavy duty physical workouts and drills combined with supervised match play.
I utilize on-court videotaping in my lessons. I believe videotaping is a highly effective way to break down strokes, footwork and as they say a picture doesn’t lie. Each of my students has their own personal URL linked to their web page where taped lessons are sent along with focused tips.
